Solar surveillance towers offer clear advantages for remote off-grid locations: no grid connection, zero emissions, and low maintenance. However, any solar-dependent system has an unavoidable weakness – weather dependency.
Extended cloudy or rainy days – PV output drops sharply, and batteries discharge faster than they can recharge.
Insufficient winter sunlight – In high-latitude regions, winter daylight hours are short and the sun angle is low, reducing generation to as little as 30–50% of summer levels.
Sudden severe weather – Snowstorms, dust, or heavy overcast further reduce solar efficiency.
When batteries run out, surveillance goes dark – an unacceptable risk for security applications.
EFOY is a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) manufactured by SFC Energy AG, a German company. It converts methanol directly into electricity through an electrochemical reaction to charge the batteries.
Technical highlights:
Clean emissions – The only by‑products are water vapor and an extremely tiny amount of CO₂, virtually negligible. No harmful exhaust.
Silent operation – No internal combustion engine, no moving pistons. Very low noise – won’t reveal the surveillance location or disturb nearby communities.
Automatic control – An intelligent controller monitors battery voltage and starts/stops the fuel cell automatically, requiring no manual intervention.
We seamlessly integrate the EFOY into our trailer‑mounted BIGLUX solar towers, creating a hybrid power architecture: “solar first, methanol backup”. The operating logic is as follows:
Solar panels generate power and charge the battery bank via the MPPT controller.
The surveillance equipment (cameras, 4G router, etc.) draws power from the batteries.
The EFOY remains in standby mode, consuming no methanol.
The EFOY controller continuously monitors battery voltage.
When the battery charge drops below a preset threshold (e.g., 30% remaining), the EFOY automatically starts.
The methanol fuel cell generates electricity to recharge the batteries, keeping the surveillance system running without interruption.
No on‑site visit or manual operation is required. Power never cuts off.
When solar generation recovers and the battery voltage rises to a safe level (e.g., above 80%), the EFOY automatically shuts down and returns to standby mode.
The system again runs entirely on solar, saving methanol fuel.
One of our Canadian customers has already deployed 168 HiSOLO surveillance towers equipped with EFOY fuel cells across remote locations, covering pipeline monitoring, border security, and similar applications. Their key feedback includes:
Year‑round uptime – Even in low‑sun winter regions, no power‑related surveillance interruptions have occurred.
Significantly lower operating costs – Methanol refueling intervals range from several weeks to months, drastically reducing the need for engineer site visits.
Environmental robustness – The EFOY operates reliably from –20°C to +50°C, meeting Canada’s harsh winter conditions.
You can watch the short video below to see how the EFOY is integrated into our solar trailer and how the hybrid logic works in practice:

For projects that demand 24/7 uninterrupted surveillance, relying on solar alone carries inherent risks. By integrating the EFOY methanol fuel cell, the BIGLUX solar tower gains the ability to run on sunshine when available, switch seamlessly to methanol when clouds roll in, and return to solar automatically – all without human intervention.
This hybrid solution has been proven at large scale in Canada and represents one of the most reliable and environmentally responsible off‑grid power options available today.
FAQ – HiSOLO Solar Trailer
Customization
Q: Can I customize the LOGO and colors on HiSOLO trailer?
A: Yes, both the color and logo can be customized to your requirements.
CCTV System Inclusion
Q: Does the solar trailer include a CCTV system?
A: No, most clients prefer buying a bare trailer and installing cameras locally. However, our CCTV box is equipped with PoE for easy connection, with DC 24V/48V & AC 220V/110V options – ensuring you can plug and play. We also offer Hikvision cameras and a pre-installation service if you need them.
Shipping Services
Q: Do you provide shipping services?
A: Yes. For North America, we offer door-to-door (DDP) service. For the Middle East, Europe, and other regions, we generally provide factory-to-port (CIF) service.
Production Lead Time
Q: What's the production lead time?
A: A standard sample typically ships within 2 weeks. Batch orders generally take about 1 month. Please consult our sales team for specific lead times.
Camera Capacity
Q: How many cameras can the trailer hold?
A: Up to 6 cameras. Actual capacity depends on local sunlight conditions, solar panel power rating, battery capacity, and camera power consumption. Please consult our sales team for a detailed assessment.
Lithium Battery Option
Q: Is there a lithium battery option?
A: Yes. In addition to standard GEL batteries, we offer lithium battery options. Please note that both the unit price and shipping costs will increase accordingly.
Discounts
Q: Are any discounts available?
A: Pricing depends on the trailer configuration. Our sales team will provide a quote based on your needs. Full-container orders are eligible for discounts.
Warranty Period
Q: What's the warranty period?
A: 1 year standard warranty. During the warranty period, if any product failures occur, we will provide technical support and free replacement parts.
